Police Promise Major Presence At AEROSMITH Concert

July 19, 2007

Dave Stewart of Prince Edward Island, Canada's The Guardian reports: Somewhere between 5,000 and 6,250 vehicles are expected to drive into Charlottetown on Saturday for the 10-hour AEROSMITH rock concert.

Both the Charlottetown city police and the private firm hired for internal security at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre, Atlantic Private Protection Security Service (APPS),are promising an overwhelming presence.

"We will have a full complement of officers, consistent with a weekend night in the summer," said Deputy Charlottetown police chief Richard Collins, who is acting as site commander for the AEROSMITH concert.

Collins said city police have three priorities — general policing around the neighborhoods, making sure people get out of the city safely after the show and ensuring people make it back to their hotels and campsites.

Collins estimates with at least 25,000 people coming from off-Island there will be in the area of 5,000 to 6,250 vehicles jockeying for 800 parking sites in the general area near the CDPEC.

"Every available officer will be working."
